Iowa is adding another drug court in Davenport that’ll offer convicted drug users strict supervision and treatment as an alternative to prison. Iowa Drug Control Policy Office associate director Dale Woolery says the success of the state’s other drug courts prompted creation of another.Woolery says drug courts have proven more effective in many cases because of the intense supervision, random drug tests and the length of treatment. And Drug Courts are proving to be a cheaper alternative to prison time. He says a study of the Polk County drug court found it less expensive than putting someone in prison.Iowa’s other Drug Courts are in Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Marshalltown and Mason City. The state’s using 122-thousand dollars in federal money to set up the new Drug Court in Davenport.
