Senior golfer Jim Thorpe is just as likely to cut loose with his thoughts as he is with his driver on a long hole. Thorpe was candid in talking about the attitudes of some of his fellow players during a stop Monday in West Des Moines to promote the upcoming Allianz Championship tournament. Thorpe says some haven’t joined in with the Senior Tour’s emphasis on being more “fan-friendly.” He says there are a lot of “prima donnas” playing on the tour and describe them using other expletives.Thorpe says Arnold Palmer is the model of what players should be, as he says Palmer never gets cranky whether he is shooting a low or a high score.Thorpe says Hale Irwin is a good example of a player with a less-than-warm personality to the fans and others. He says Irwin is a great player, but isn’t friendly when he’s competing. Thorpe says he’d like to see Irwin admit that the other players are good, too.Thorpe said he hopes his remarks upset Irwin so he can beat him. Thorpe and Irwin will be back in West Des Moines August 26th to play in the Allianz.
