The Marshalltown City Council voted last night to fire city administrator Ed Geick, though it’s still unclear why. Lots of secrecy has been associated with why council people believe Geick should be removed from his position. There were two separate incidents where three council people met with Geick to discuss his job performance and future with the city, outside of a publicly announced meeting. According to Marshalltown Mayor Floyd Harthun, the council people didn’t break the open meetings law, but they broke the spirit of the law. Last night, The council heard from many residents who were in support of Geick, but the council still voted four to three to have April 4th be Geick’s last day, when he will be let go and receive six months severance pay.
