Webster County Sheriff Chuck Griggs filed a written plea of “not guilty” Tuesday in Fort Dodge to charges of misspending brought against him by the Iowa Attorney General. Charges against Sheriff Griggs include 2nd degree theft, felony misconduct in office and tampering with records. A state audit report found Griggs signed off on more than ten-thousand dollars for items not used as part of the sheriff’s office or the jail. Griggs is out of jail based on a promise to appear in court, though no trial date is set. County leaders have -not- asked for Griggs to resign from the office he’s held for 22 years.
