A member of the construction crew working on a new practice field for the Iowa State football team was injured this afternoon. Gene Deisinger, a spokesman for I-S-U’s Public Safety Department, says the accident happened early this afternoon. Deisinger says three workers were dismantling a crane to modify it for another purpose. Deisinger has been told the crane beam was only a few inches off the ground when it collapsed and caused injuries to the legs of one of the employees. Deisinger says the three-man crew expected the crane beam to operate in a certain way during the dismantling, but things did not go according to plan. The injured worker was taken to the hospital in Ames; his condition is not being released.
