Former Northern Iowa basketball standout Robbie Sieverding has been named an assistant coach at the University of Dubuque. Sieverding was an all-stater at Bellevue Marquette High School and after a stint at Marshalltown Community College was twice named all Missouri Valley Conference for the Panthers. He says he didn’t put a lot of thought into his first few years in college, and then took some classes and got interested. He says the year he sat out with an injury made him see what it was like on the bench and taught him that coaching was a way to compete when his playing days were over. He says competing is almost like an addiction to him.Marty McDermott is the head coach at Dubuque. He is the brother of U-N-I coach Greg McDermott. Lightly recruited out of high school, Sieverding was considered an overachiever and he plans to convey that message as a coach. He says he hopes to get the team on the right track and will tell his team that nothing is given to you.
