A state employee who won one legal round in the State Supreme Court today is no longer on the state payroll. Jen Worthington was a fire prevention supervisor in the State Fire Marshal’s office, but then stood at the center of controversy after she snitched about a romantic relationship between another supervisor and an employee in the office. Worthington was then accused of falsifying fire inspection reports. She was charged, but found not guilty. Worthington has said others in the office did the tampering to get back at her. The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled a lawsuit Worthington filed to try to forbid her bosses from firing her should be heard by a judge. She did not, however, appeal a state administrative law judge’s ruling that she could be dismissed, and she was. Worthington stayed on the state payroll for about a year after the charges and countercharges surfaced in the State Fire Marshal’s office.
