The shooting death of an Ames man over the weekend is being called an accident.

Ames Police were called to a home at 4810 Westbend Drive shortly after 10:30 Friday night on the report of an accidental shooting. When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Devlin Lockman with a gunshot wound to the head. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say it appears Lockman shot himself while handling a semi-automatic, nine millimeter handgun. According to a press release, investigators say it appears to be nothing more than “a tragic accident.”
