Forecasters say big changes are ahead with Iowa’s weather this week. After sunshine and temperatures in the 60s and 70s over the weekend, meteorologist Allan Curtis at the National Weather Service says thunderstorms and other severe weather events are possible tomorrow as a cold front moves in.

“By late afternoon into the evening hours tomorrow, there’s pretty good potential for some severe weather,” Curtis says. “The main concerns are hail, high winds and depending on the area, there may be an isolated tornado or two.”

After the storms depart Iowa sometime Wednesday, Curtis says cooler air will filter into the state for the rest of the week, bringing the chance for some record cold temperatures. “With highs, we’re talking upper 50s and low 60s for most of the state and then we’re talking about lows in the upper 30s and low 40s,” he says.

High temps next weekend are expected to be closer to normal in the 60s and low 70s across much of Iowa.
