Nussle calls State of Union speech "surreal"

Republican Congressman Jim Nussle of Manchester says lastnight’s State of the Union speech was “surreal.” He says the “pall ofimpeachment” hung over the event. In his speech, President Clinton urged lawmakers to join hisadministration in creating a “safety net” for farmers who are suffering fromlow commodity prices. Nussle wants more details. Republican Congressman Jim Leach gives the speech high marks…sayingClinton embraced many Republican themes. He says, ironically, thePresident’s impeachment should prompt greater bipartisanship. Senator Harkin believes the President connected with the Americanpeople.
