Governor and lawmakers compromise on school spending

) A compromise to increase spending for public schools hasbeen reached between Governor Vilsack and lawmakers. House speaker RonCorbett credits a new era of cooperation between the political parties inthe statehouse. The plan calls for per-student spending to growfour-percent, starting with the 2000 school year.
