An autobiography about the life of retired Iowa football coach Hayden Fry is set to hit the shelves. The book is called “High Porch Picnic,” after a well-known Fry adage. The book details not only his time at Iowa but dates back to his days as a high school standout in Odessa, Texas. Retired Iowa sports information director George Wine authored the book and says the most intersting part of the book to him dealt with Fry breaking the color barrier in the Southwest Conference when he recruited Jerry Levias at S-M-U. Fry says of all his accomplishments, the recruitment of Levias stands out the most. He says he recruited Levias over the objections of supporters of S-M-U. Fry retired as Iowa coach at the end of this past season.
