The quarterfinal round is complete at the boys state basketball tournament. In class 4a, after opening the season 3-8 West Des Moines Valley is a win away from the state title game. The Tigers got 24-points from Luke Jacobsen to stun third-ranked Des Moines Hoover 48-44. Greg Danielson led Hoover with 24-points but the Huskies managed just 27-percent shooting for the game. Eighth ranked Dubuque Wahlert got by fifth rated Bettendorf 63-57. Sixth ranked Marshalltown overcame a slow start to down Cedar Rapids Jefferson 53-37. Jason Williams had 16-points to lead the Bobcats who managed just six first quarter points before outscoring Jefferson 16-8 in the second quarterto take a 22-19 lead at the break. Jefferson coach Stuart Ordman says his team did not take advantage of the good start. Second ranked Sioux City Westjumped out to a 12-point lead at the end of one in a 68-53 victory over Waterloo East. Kirk Hinrich had 21-points to lead the Wolverines who led by16 at the half. It is West’s fourth straight trip to state and Hinrich says that was an advantage
