Roof falls at capitol

March 18, 1999 By admin

Chicken Little WAS right. The sky was falling today inside the Iowa Statehouse. The capitol is topped by a golden dome. On the inside, thatdome is painted sky blue with fluffy white clouds — Chicken Little’s sky, if you will. Workers on the other side of that plaster punctured it thismorning with the iron tread from a stairway. The plaster fell about six stories, striking two lobbyists standing in the statehouse basement. They aren’t hurt, but Ned Chiodo is joking that he’ll sue. Chiodo — still joking — says the state should probably send him to the Bahamas for a week to compensate for his pain and suffering. Chiodo says it made him think how his life could end in a flash.
