Vilsack refuses to pull hometown dentist’s nomination

March 22, 1999 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack today defended his decision to appoint a dentist who had been disciplined by the board of dental examiners to that very board.Vilsack is asking the senate to approve the appointment of Mt. Pleasant dentist Steve Wettig to the board. Vilsack says Wettig will be an important voice on the board and provide a personal account on the toll an allegationmisconduct can have on a dentist. Vilsack represented Wettig in Wettig’s appeal of the discipline. Vilsack says the disciplinary action was not related to his practice and stemmed from a letter he sent to his patients. The disciplinary action against Wettig did not involve a fine or suspension.
