Lemars ice cream plant could be out of service two months

Company officials at Wells Dairy in LeMars say it will be some time beforethey determine what caused the explosion in their south ice cream plantSaturday. The explosion shut down the plant and idled 500 workers. Wellsspokesman Dave Smetter says they do know it will take some time to get theplant back in operation.The plant makes the Wells Blue Bunny ice cream products. Smetter says thecompany will pick up the slack of lost ice cream production at its otherplant.Smetter says they have a large amount of ice cream in frozen storage at thesouth plant away from the area that was damaged. He says those products canbe shipped now to keep the plant from falling behind.
