Tom Vilsack, in just his rookie season as governor, was able to getlegislators to put several key campaign promises into law. Number one: thefulfilled promise of spending more money on schools in order to reduce classsizes. Number two: patient protection from H.M.O. abuses. Number three: renewed state vigilance against those who make and deal the dangerous drug”meth.” Iowa’s democrat Governor enjoyed a honeymoon, of sorts, withRepublican legislators because of his decisive victory last November. Senate Democrat Leader Mike Gronstal of Council Bluffs.Gronstal says Vilsack’s accomplishments are remarkable.Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows agrees Vilsack wasvictorious in terms of fulfilling campaign promises.
