Farmers take advantage of some dry weather

May 11, 1999 By admin

Iowa farmers took advantage of some dry weather last week to get into teh fields. One week ago the weekly state crop report showed just 14-percent of the Iowa corn crop has been planted. That changed dramatically this past week as the report says through Sunday 66-percent of teh intended acreage is planted. That’s slightly ahead of the average of 63-percent for this time last year. Soybean planting is running slightly behind. Just five percent of the beans are in the ground compared with 13-percent last year and an average of 11-percent for this time of year.
