A bus once used to hawk ice cream is now being used by a “dove-ish” groupwhich hopes to lower the U.S. defense budget.”Ben and Jerry’s” bus, affectionately named Mabel, is now on a “U Slice thePie” tour of Iowa on behalf of “Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities.”The group’s Iowa director, Peggy Huppert, says the “Move our Money” bus is agreat resource. The bus is staffed with three paid performers who park itaround the country to demonstrate the federal budget and the choicespoliticians could make with our money.Huppert says the group isn’t telling voters which presidential candidates tosupport, but asks Iowans to ask the candidates about defense spending. The bus tour kicked off in Washington, D.C. in mid-April. In June, the busis parked in Des Moines these days, but will be on the road soon, includinga stint on RAGBRAI. “Ben and Jerry’s” co-founder Ben Cohen will ride onRAGBRAI and give away ice cream as part of the show.
