National Democrat leader attacks George Bush

The chairman of the Democratic National Committee is taking aim at thefront-runner for the Republican party’s presidential nomination. FormerColorado Governor Roy Romer, a democrat, says Texas Governor George W. Bushhasn’t proven to be a leader.Romer singles out as a “leadership blunder” Bush’s failure to advancea bill which would have required background checks of those who buy weaponsat gun shows. The day after the bill died in the Texas legislature, Bushpublicly stated his support of the measure.Romer says his own party’s primary contest between Vice President Al Goreand former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley isn’t worrisome. He says Gore andBradley are sticking to the issues and not attacking each other. Romer is inIowa today, meeting with democrat party officials.
