Former Grinell coach had a hand in U-S Senior Open

A former golf coach at Grinnell College was instrumental in helping the DesMoines Golf and Country Club land the U-S Senior Open. Ed Bowers — amember of the U-S-G-A Senior Amateur Committee — is glad the Open will becontested in his home state.Bowers says establishing the Des Moines Golf and Country Club as the sitefor the tournament was a lengthy process.Bowers says officials from the U-S-G-A looked at the facility and felt itwould be a good fit for the Open.Bowers also had coaching stints at Mount Pleasant High School and IowaWesleyan College.
