Politicians play on Field of Dreams

July 5, 1999 By admin

Before men dream of becoming president, little boys dream of stardom on the baseball field. Two presidential wanna-be’s pursued one of their dreams this weekend in Dyersville. Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich and Democrat presidential candidate Bill Bradley were on a team of celebrities which played during the Shoeless Joe Jackson National Tournament. Bradley smacked an in-the-park homer in his only at-bat. Bradley says he hadn’t held a bat for 15 years. Bradley says the homer’s a “good omen” for his presidential campaign. The game was played in Commercial Club park in Dyersville, not on the “Field of Dreams,” but Kasich made three trips to the famous farmfield on Saturday. Kasich says it was great to hang out with Hall of Famer & Iowa native Bob Feller, who pitched for the Cleveland Indians.
