Dole courts female vote

Republican presidential hopeful Elizabeth Dole is trying to tap into a groupthat’s been energized by her candidacy: women college students. Dole spokeMonday at the American Institute for Business in Des Moines and SimpsonCollege in Indianola. A-I-B student Janelle Eoriatti thinks Dole may be theone.Dole’s Iowa campaign manager, Monte Shaw, says it’s a non-traditional blockof voters who’ve shown incredible enthusiasm for Dole’s history-making bid.The challenge, Shaw admits, will be getting students to participate inrepublican party events, like the August 14th strawpoll in Ames. DuringQ-and-A with the A-I-B students, Dole was asked about tax policy.Dole promises more details on her tax plans in the fall. Dole makes stopstoday in Fort Dodge (8 a.m.), Humbolt (9:45 a.m.), Clarion (noon), Hampton(3 p.m.) and Mason City (5 p.m.). (She campaigned yesterday in Ames, Adel,Winterset, Indianola and Des Moines.)
