Basketball teams converge on Cedar Falls

Over 175 basketball teams are in Cedar Falls this week to take part in theAmerican Youth Basketball Tour at the UNI-Dome. Linda Echlemeyeris with the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau and says the tourincludes teams from fourth grade through the 11th grade.The program started three years ago at the University of Indiana butexpanded quickly and needed another venue. Echlemeyer says tournamentpromoter Bob Renwick began looking at Cedar Falls last year.The tournament is one of several major events in the past couple of years tobe held in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area and Echlemeyer says “sportstourism” is on the rise.
