How does a town of 11-thousand handle nearly 15-thousand visitors in oneday? Spencer, Iowa is working on that as they are the first overnight stopon RAGBRAI — the Register’s Annual Great Bike Across Iowa. Spencer tourismdirector Kathy Fueston says thanks to the local campground, they should haveno problems.Fueston says Spencer’s only problem is there aren’t enough homes to goaround. Local businesses are ready for the RAGBRAI participants, but thereare no motel rooms available. Spencer’s residents hope Mother Nature willlet them show off their town. RAGBRAI is a five-hundred-30 mile bike ridebeginning July 25th in Rock Rapids and ending July 31st in Bellevue. Overnight stops will be in Spencer, Algona, Clear Lake, Waverly, Decorah,and Manchester.
