Girls softball tourney opens tonite

The state high school softball tournament opens tonight at Harlan RogersPark in Fort Dodge. A pair of top ranked teams see action tonight. In class1A top ranked Woodward-Granger opens a bid for a second consecutive title asthe Hawks take a 40-4 record into a first round matchup with 15th rankedArmstrong-Ringsted. also in 1A, second ranked Alburnett at 39-8 takes onnumber 14 Wapello. Number eight Earlham battles ninth ranked SouthWinneshiek. North Polk plays Remsen St. Marys. In the nightcaps, actionmoves into the opening round in class 2A. Top ranked Waukee enters thetournament 38-5 and will play Marion in the opening round. The Osage GreenDevils are the biggest Cinderella story headIng into the tournament. Osagefinished the regular season 9-22 but tonight will open the class 2Atournament against Perry. The biggest upset for coach Cal Peter’s team camein the regional semis when they sidelined fourth ranked MFL-MAR-MAC. Petersays his team will have a difficult first round challenge.The 3A first round is Tuesday.
