Bauer questions Bush’s "compasionate conservative’ label

A competitor of Republican presidential front-runner George W. Bush suggeststhe Texas Governor is not the “compassionate conservative” he claims to be. Gary Bauer points to an interview in which Bush mocked a Texas inmate whowas recently executed. Karla Faye Tucker had a religious conversion duringher time behind bars, spurring some supporters to seek a stay on herexecution.Bauer says he can’t come up with an explanation for the Governor’s mockingattitude.Bauer says in the same “Talk” magazine interview, Bush has a “cavalierattitude” about the sanctity of life because Bush didn’t know whetherabortions had gone up or down during his tenure as Governor.
