Republicans continue campaign blitz in state

All but two of the announced Republicans who are seeking their party’spresidential nomination are campaigning in Iowa today.This morning, Republican candidate Steve Forbes said American farmers arebeing hurt by policies advanced by federal money-managers who believe”deflation” must be combatted with a bit of “inflation.”Forbes is the publisher of a business magazine which bears his family name.Elizabeth Dole today proposed that capital gains taxes be forgiven on thefirst half-a-million dollars worth of farmland or home property sold by afarmer. Also campaigning in Iowa today are Lamar Alexander, Gary Bauer,Orrin Hatch, Alan Keyes and Dan Quayle. Tomorrrow, George W. Bush returnsto Iowa. Only candidate John Mc-Cain refuses to campaign here andparticipate in Saturday’s Iowa Republican party Straw Poll in which25-dollar ballots will be cast by Iowans for the candidate of their choice.
