Bettendorf school holds hostage drill

Should a school shooting disaster like Columbine ever strike BettendorfMiddle School, officials think they’re ready to respond. Blanks were firedto start a simulated emergency Wednesday that involved dozens of students,teachers, police and rescue crews.Rick Herrig is co-principal at the middle school. He says everyone involvedin the simulated emergency learned something.Herrig says about 60 students volunteered to take part in the simulation.Some posed as hostages and others were shooting victims, while the rest wereevacuees.School starts in Bettendorf next week.
