Company pays state over misleading car lease terms

A car company is paying Iowa 50-thousand dollars for alledgedly misleadingconsumers on the terms of car leases. Assistant Attorney General Bill Brauchsays the payment is part of a settlement with Mazda Motor of America firstreached in 1996. The company paid 42-thousand dollars in 1996 and agreed tochange the way it presented leases to potential buyers. The latest paymentcame after the Attorney General alleged the company had broken theagreement.Brauch says several other companies were involved in the originalsettlement.Brauch says Mazda will move to clarify its advertising.Brauch says 23 other states are also receiving payments from Mazda.
