New Iowa coach ready to put basketball team through its paces

New Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford says he does not know what to expectfrom the Hawkeyes during his initial season on the bench. The Hawks lost anumber of players from last year’s team that advanced to the sweet-16 andexpectations for the upcoming season are low. Alford says his goal for theseason is to build a foundation that will eventually make Iowa a top-tenprogram.Alford says the pre-season workouts will be critical for the players toadapt to his system.Alford says practice should be intense because so many spots are wide open.The Hawkeyes open the season against U-Conn in the “Coaches versus CancerClassic” in New York.
