October 15, 1999 By admin

Senate Majority Leader Stewart Iverson is asking Governor Vilsack to reversean executive order that prohibits employee descrimination based on genderidentity. Iverson, a republican, says the order goes too far in extendingspecial protections to transexuals employed in state government. Iverson, a republican, says this isn’t an order that Iowa needs. He says thegovernor has gone too far and is out of touch with the people of Iowa.Iverson says the executive order is a payback to Iowa’s gay and lesbiancommunity for their support in electing Vilsack, who is a democrat. The governor signed the executive order in September, but the provisioninvolving gender identity has gone unoticed until now.
