You might want to bring your spare change to Des Moines this weekend. The 61st annual Iowa Numismatic Association convention gets underway there today and it includes free appraisals by the coin collectors. Chris Seuntjen is the spokesperson for the event.Seuntjens says the convention will include an exhibit of some of the rarest coins made. One coin is a “Coiled Hair Gold Stella” worth 100-thousand dollars. Some of the newest coins are also drawing a lot of interest. He says many people want to collect the new quarters dedicated to each of the 50 states.Suentjens says dealers will be available to appraise your coins. While there are a lot of stories of people finding rare antiques in their homes worth thousands, he says that doesn’t happen much with coins. The coin convention runs today through tomorrow from 9 am until 5 pm at the downtown Des Moines Holiday Inn. Admission is free.
