Group rates Des Moines high for saving

January 13, 2000 By admin

A city in central Iowa ranks among the best places in America to earn and save money. A Minnesota-based financial security firm placed Des Moines in the top ten. Rick Naymark , a spokesman for ReliaStar Financial Corporation based in Minneapolis, says Des Moines tied for 5th place with Seattle on the list of 125 metro areas, based on 15 criteria.Besides being a leader in health care coverage and for having a very low unemployment rate, Naymark says Des Moines also ranks 16th best in the nation for housing costs. He says America as a whole is becoming a better place to earn and save money. Des Moines was the only Iowa city to make the list, which includes metro areas of 400-thousand or more. Omaha placed 31st. Ann Arbor, Michigan was number-one and Jersey City, New Jersey was last at number-125.
