Iowa changes Tiger Hawk logo

March 23, 2000 By admin

The University of Iowa is updating the “tiger hawk” logo that addorns the university’s athletic uniforms and merchandise. Former football coach Hayden Fry introduced the logo when he came to Iowa in 1979. Sports Marketing Director Rick Klatt says the new logo is an updated version of the old tiger hawk.Klatt hopes the updated logo brings new success like the original logo brought to the football team after Fry introduced it.Klatt says the new logo has a more aggressive beak and brow. Merchandise carrying the logo brings the university half a million dollars a year in licensing fees. The University says it’s gotten a mixed reaction thus far to the new logo. Many Hawkeye loyalists say they don’t like the new design.
