Former Iowa munitions workers may get award from the government

April 12, 2000 By admin

Anyone who worked in the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in southeast Iowa who is now ill may be in for some money from Uncle Sam. Reports say the U-S government will pay 400-million dollars to thousands of workers exposed to radiation while working in dozens of the nation’s nuclear bomb factories. Congressman Leonard Boswell says it’s still unclear if workers from the Iowa plant would be included in the compensation settlement. Boswell says he’s going to continue pushing for fair treatment for the Iowans. The Washington Post reports the government will offer up to 100-thousand dollars each to former nuclear weapons plant workers with certain types of cancer.
