Drake player not drafted, but signs with the Dolphins

April 17, 2000 By admin

Several Iowa college football players who did not get selected in the N-F-L draft will sign free agent contracts. Drake fullback Pete Sylvester signed with the Miami Dolphins Sunday night. He says he’s been talking to the teams the last several weeks.Sylvester admits playing at Drake is not the normal route to get a shot at the N-F-L but he is happy just to get a chance to go to the Dolphins camp.Sylvester began his career at Illinois but after an injury found himself buried on the depth chart and says transferring to Drake gave him a chance to play. He says after surgery, everyone told him not to play again, but he says transferring to Drake was one of the smarter decisions he ever made in his life.
