Simpson NCAA bid surprises coach

May 9, 2000 By admin

Simpson College softball coach Henry Christowski admits he is surprised his team has a chance to defend its national title. The Storm head to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for an N-C-A-A division three regional on Friday. Simpson finished third in an Iowa Conference playoff on Sunday and Christowski says after a 3-2 loss to Coe, he thought their season was over. He says the committee took a look at the results of the games they played against automatic qualifiers. He says they had success against those teams and that led to the bid. With only five at-large bids into the tournament, Christowski was shocked two of them went to Iowa Conference schools.
