Bus fire halts traffic on I-80

May 12, 2000 By admin

Interstate-80 was at a standstill near the Brooklyn exit for an hour and a half this morning. At about 9 o’clock, a commercial bus caught on fire at mile marker 195 — which is east of Grinnell. Iowa Highway Patrol Sergeant Robert Hansen says the flames were large enough, westbound traffic was completely blocked. Hansen says I-80 traffic was at a standstill and the line of cars stretched for nearly three miles. Hansen says it’ll take a while to get the bus towed away. No one is believed to have been hurt.
