Time to honor school board members

The Iowa Association of School Boards is asking Iowans to give a hand to the men and women who set policies for the state’s school systems. Association spokesperson Mary Vosika says school board members manage a lot of money without being paid. She says the more than 21-hundred men and women spend more than three-point-three billion dollars each year.This is “School Board Recognition Week.” Vosika says school boards face tough challenges, especially in a time of tight budgets.Vosika says you should keep in touch with your school board members throughout the year.Figures from the Iowa Association of School Boards show that 65-percent of school board members have served less than five years. Over half of the school board members are over the age of 40.
