E-mail hoax warns of infected mail

June 10, 2000 By admin

Iowans who’ve gotten e-mail from well-meaning friends warning them about the “Klingerman Virus” can -ignore- the warning. State health officials say there’s no such thing as the Klingerman Virus. The message warns packages are being sent out that contain sponges soaked in a killer viral infection. State epidemiologist Dr. Patty Quinlisk says this is a terrible misuse of the computer.Dr. Quinlisk says other recent hoaxes dealt with bananas that were said to be carrying a deadly virus and AIDS-infected needles hidden in theater seats. She says to check with the Centers for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov before you panic. She says if you get one of these e-mail, delete them and do not forward them on to someone else.
