Conference seeks to get community involved in preventing child abuse

A seminar today in Des Moines seeks to increase community involvement across the state in child welfare issues. Steve Scott is the Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. Scott says they’ll be talking about increasing community partnerships in preventing child abuse.Scott says it boils down to the often-used phrase “It takes village to raise a child.”Scott says Shay Bilchik, the Executive Director of the Child Welfare League of America, will give the keynote address.He says a pilot program in Cedar Rapids is a model for the future. He says there’re only four such programs in the entire country.Scott says they hope they can get more communities involved in community partnerships like the one established in Cedar Rapids.
