Pilots conduct training with night vision goggles

July 12, 2000 By admin

Pilots from the 132nd fighter wing of the Iowa Air National Guard in Des Moines are putting in some extra, late-evening flying time. Iowa Guard Spokesman Colonel Robert King says they’re practicing flying with “night vision” goggles. King says the training prepares them for flying in low light areas during combat. The F-16 fighters leave the airport at sunset and cruise across the state training with the goggles. The planes return after 11 p.m., but King says they haven’t had any public complaints about the late flying. The training will last through next week.
