Storms pound eastern Iowa

Heavy storms brought hail, high winds and more than three inches of rain to parts of eastern Iowa this morning. Rick Arkell, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Davenport, says the storms were at their worst between one and four o-clock this morning.In addition to the one-inch hail in Louisa and Iowa counties, Arkell says many areas were hit with winds that were approaching hurricane strength. Wind gusts at Washington exceeded 63-miles an hour. Keokuk had 55-mile an hour gusts. The town of Millersburg in Iowa County reported three-and-a-half inches of rain in less than three hours. Iowa City had nearly three inches. Arkell says there are scattered reports of storm damage, mainly trees and power lines blown down.There were no reports of any injuries.
