The democrat and republican presidential candidates will set foot in Iowa today. Democrat Al Gore began his trek down the Mississippi on Saturday, and left Keokuk this morning, bound for Hannibal, Missouri. Gore has been quoting Mark Twain in his riverbank speeches urging people to vote for the democratic ticket.Gore, who was embroiled in a campaign fundraising scandal involving a Buddist Temple, is pledging to sign the McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform bill into law if he’s elected. He says they need to get “special interest” money out of the campaign.Texas Governor George W. Bush will be in Des Moines early this afternoon to visit a school. This evening, he will attend a G-O-P fundraiser.
