The blood supply in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska is critically low. Susan Allen, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross in Omaha, says they have just a one-day supply of blood left, and donors are needed.Allen says area hospitals are stocked, but the Red Cross lacks the blood it needs on its shelves. She says it’s important to have blood on hand in case of an emergency.The Red Cross in Omaha provides blood and blood products to 93 area hospitals. Allen says they need donors, fast.Allen says blood donations are down by one-third for the month.To make an appointment to give blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE and the operator will direct you to the nearest Red Cross office.
