Des Moines man first Iowa constestant on Powerball gameshow

August 22, 2000 By admin

A 74-year-old Des Moines man has won the right to be Iowa’s first contestant on the “Powerball” game show premier October 7th. Ralph Snyder says he’ll be enthusiastic, but does not plan to hug game show host Bob Eubanks if he wins. Ten contestants — including one from Iowa — will compete in every edition of the game show and the top prize is one million dollars. Snyder’s been told it’s a game of luck. He says there’s not a lot of skill required.Snyder is still active in the classroom, and is coaching middle-school football in Urbandale. Two other Iowans have been selected to appear in episodes of the game show. Janice Brainard of Monona will appear on October 14th’s show. Laura Redding of Fayette will appear on October 21st. The contestants’ names were drawn from a pot of players who purchased a special, three-dollar scratch ticket.
