Expert says you need to water plants to get them ready for winter

October 10, 2000 By admin

An Iowa State University horticulturist says this week’s warm-up is the perfect time to give recently-planted outdoor plants a drink.Garden expert Richard Jauron says trees, shrubs and perenials planted in the past couple years need to be replentished for the winter months ahead.Jauron says you can water outdoor plants until the ground freezes in late November or early December.Jauron says mature trees and shrubs may be suffering a bit, but if they’re large and well-established, they’ve adapted to Iowa’s climate and don’t need to be watered.
