Mysterious gunshot wounds Eastern Iowa man

October 16, 2000 By admin

Northeast Iowa authorities are searching for the person who fired the shot, which struck an Earlville man in the back of the head this weekend. 53-year-old Eugene Weigel of rural Earlville was working in his yard Saturday evening when he heard a gunshot. Weigel then discovered the shot had hit him. Weigel was taken to a Dubuque hospital for treatment and released Sunday. Deputies in the Delaware County Sheriff’s office and highway patrolmen searched fields and gravel roads, but couldn’t find anyone near Weigel’s house. Weigel didn’t see the shooter, either.
