Cedar Rapids schools nip smoking in the butt

Cedar Rapids cops have a new plan to curb teen smoking. The officers assigned to each Cedar Rapids high school are now policing the grounds for underage smokers. The crackdown’s getting mixed reaction from students, some who say the cops should have better things to do.Underage students caught smoking face a 50-dollar fine on the first offense.Cedar Rapids policeman Jeffery Ilten says students are taking notice and not smoking in front of officers.Last week, an officer cited two Cedar Rapids Jefferson students for smoking and found they had marijuana, too.
